SUMMARY:The Wilcox Group and the Energy Transition: Integrated Stratigraphic\, Sedimentologic\, and Chemostratigraphic Perspectives on Depositional Evolution\, Paleoclimate\, CO2 Storage\, and Geothermal Potential
DESCRIPTION:Iulia Olariu\, Ph.D.\, State of Texas Advanced Oil and Gas Resource Recovery (STARR)\, Bureau of Economic Geology\, UT-Austin\n \nBiography\nIulia is currently a research associate with the Bureau of Economic Geology. Her area of expertise is clastic sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy with a special interest in the quantitative depositional architecture of both shallow and deep-water sedimentary systems. A\nkey research challenge is understanding sediment dispersion at large\, basin-scale which she tries to answer using subsurface (wells\, seismic and core) data. Since joining the Bureau in 2012\, she has worked on complex structural and stratigraphic regional studies\, as well as various feasibility projects for CO 2 storage resource assessment of the Northern Gulf of Mexico. The studies involved various Tertiary formations along the Texas Gulf Coast such as Frio\, Wilcox Group and Miocene. Most recently she is engaged in geothermal resource characterization in Texas. Before joining the Bureau\, she worked in the Department of Geological Sciences at University of Texas at Austin where her research focused on the use of outcrops as analogs to hydrocarbon reservoirs. She has received a B.S. degree from the University of Bucharest in Romania and her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Dallas. In her free time\, she enjoys reading\, traveling and hiking.
